European Jazz Dialogues
The Rialto Theatre in co-operation with the Embassy of the Czech Republic to Cyprus and the organisation Jeunesses Musicales Cyprus presents a musical encounter between Czech and Cypriot musicians in the framework of the festivities marking the Czech Presidency of the European Union.
The internationally renowned Milan Svoboda Quartet from Prague and
the first jazz orchestra in Cyprus, the Cyprus Big Band, will meet to give a joint concert and an opportunity to the audience to get a taste of the new trends in European jazz. The original compositions of Milan Svoboda, Maestro of the Prague Big Band, which represent a long tradition of jazz in Central Europe, will be performed in arrangements for a quartet and a little Big Band.
The Cyprus Big Band is the first jazz orchestra in Cyprus. It brings together prominent Cypriot musicians, graduates of renowned European and American music schools. The orchestra is a typical “Little Big Band” and comprises alto, tenor, and baritone saxophones, two trumpets, trombone, piano, bass and drums. Its repertoire traces the historical developmentof jazz and Latin music in America and in Europe and covers all its stages from the beginning of the 20th century to modern times.

Opera
Bravissimo
The performance “Bravissimo!” is dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the Novaya Opera Theatre. It is a selection of classical operatic masterpieces, representing different opera music forms: arias, duets, trios, quartets, quintets, choruses and orchestral numbers.
The protagonist of the performance is the Theatre. The scene of Part 1, which consists of Russian classical operatic numbers, is set in the Hermitage Garden in the early 20th century.
In Part 2 we leave the would-be theatrical quarters of Part 1 and “enter” the Theatre proper to listen to foreign operatic hits. This performance is an expression of our gratitude and admiration for all opera composers, to whom the Novaya Opera Theatre never stops saying “Bravissimo!”
