Christos Christou was born in Pafos in 1950. After his studies in Paris (Ιcole Nationale Supιrieure des Beaux-arts), where he specialised in painting, frescoes and lithography, he settled there. His main work, which revolves around man and beings of the animal kingdom (horses, birds, bulls etc), is characterised by a dream-like surrealism that recalls early renaissance frescoes with sculptural forms.
Andreas Hadjithomas has the following to say about Christou’s work:
“The artist, through intuitive reasoning and a refined way of expression, makes up his own world based on idealism and a supernatural element that creates various associations and strong psychological situations
“Traditional, classical and Byzantine elements are clear in his work, without excluding elements of other historic places and cultural areas.
“Light, movement, shape, form linked with the artist’s thoughts create a lyrical and poetic world that touches the sensitive chords of the viewer, who shall be standing before the work for a long time in order to remember and admire the result. A magnetic force holds the glance to examine the parameters and details of the works that contain so much detailed work and rare mastery. Every piece of work has its own uniqueness, its own time and its own secret world. Everything operates with a result, but also with a reduction in its total. They all comprise the creator’s artistic vision, the personality of a man who, with consistency and completeness, transforms reality”.
