The Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia with the collaboration of the Embassy of Spain in Cyprus from the 15th of June to the 29th of August 2010 hosts the exhibition: ''35 + Building Democracy: 35 years of social architecture in Spain''.

The exhibition is organized on the occasion of the Spanish presidency of the European Union and has traveled already to several other European capitals.

The exhibition presents a group of representative works from the period 1975-2008, focusing on the manner in which architecture encompasses and interprets the political changes brought about by the Spanish Constitution of 1978.

Visitors find themselves at the convergence of architecture, politics and society, and are led on a guided tour of a chronological path through the buildings and infrastructure projects on display. The individual identity of each reveals the architect, the contractor, as well as the time and budget required for its construction.

The ambition of this exhibition is to explain the correlation between building a democratic and social State with creating tangible public and social commodities in the recent history of Spain. Health, housing, education, transport, sports, culture and the environment are all implemented in buildings and infrastructures which transform the landscape of Spain and the quality of life of its citizens. Democracy isn't legitimized solely by the citizens’ vote, but also by its ability to provide public commodities, and to this end, architecture plays an irreplaceable role.
