Art Exhibition:'Dimitris Michlis', 18th June - 24th July 2010

‘Corner Cyprus’ Gallery of Larnaca (45 Stadiou Str) presents the new art work of the Cypriot artist Dimitris Michlis from 18th June until 24th July 2010.

Undoubtedly, Dimitris Michlis is not only a genuine artist but also an inconsistent artist. His work exudes a primitive strength, honesty and truth rarely found nowadays. He uses simple and earthy colors. Born in  1954 in the today occupied village called Achna, Dimitris Michlis lived and worked for many years in Tochni Village. He studied painting at St. Martin's School of Art, London (BA and MA). He presented his work in many solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions in Cyprus  and abroad."I like to keep my own hours, many days without seeing or speaking to anyone. So I am a painter", he says.

The new work of the artist is inspired by the landscape of Cyprus and the island's wildlife in general: trees, logs, trees, flowers in growth, seas and skies, and tables with powerful and expressive faces.

The art historian Dr. Tonia Loizou states that 'the colors and the matters used by the artist are both earthy. In some cases, however, the colors make a sharp transition in multilevel surfaces and guide to the last level. His works really transform Cyprus nature with a deep eroticism and aesthetic enjoyment. That's why the beauty of the nature pops up; because the artist knows how to see it.'
