Rock Summer night in Pissouri

 

The little village of Pissouri loves to rock every year on one hot summer night. Staged in the village's outdoor amphitheatre, with a spectacular view, this small but extremely dedicated festival is ideal for music lovers.

Vying to become one of the premier rock music events in Cyprus, Rock Pissouri is now into its 3rd year. This year will be the biggest and best yet. The line up includes bands from Cyprus and the United Kingdom.  Set in the stunning village of Pissouri just on the edge of Limassol, the village sports the most amazing venue for events of this kind, with a capacity of around 1000. This year we have 4 bands performing all with differing styles.

Wanderlust is a Paphos based rock band with a good following and a strong musical direction, the band was finally formed in Jan 2008 when the founding member decided to combine their musical experiences. Wanderlusts driving sound, the haunting vocal of Natalie and the influences of alternative rock have made this band very popular around the live circuit in Cyprus.

Their debut album "Technology" receives serious play on several radio stations.

No Off Switch are a classic rock band, playing only original classic rock and they guarantee to rock your socks off. They rock like no others. All the members cut their teeth in bands such as Led Zeppelin, Ac/Dc, Black Sabbath and the like.

They like audience participation so bring your singing voices with you. No Off Switch are loud, very rock and entertaining.

The Low Spark was formed in 2009 by ex-Snakecharmer members Mario Michael and Lefteris Moumtzis and drummer Dimitris Panayides. They play their own blend of 70’s flavoured, funked-up-soul-rock. For Pissouri Rock they will premier brand new original material. Expect psychedelic improvisations and spaced-out jams.

Ride On is a small departure from the theme of original music. We have enlisted the services of one of the best if not the best British Ac/Dc tribute bands ever to hit the stage. Having played together since the early 90's, Ride On has amassed a huge following and have played large venues and events. They play all your favorite classic Bon Scott era Ac/Dc, such as Highway to hell, Touch to much, The Jack, Riff Raff, Whole lotta Rosie and many more. They are a very hard act to follow so it’s a good thing they are headlining this year’s festival.

Legend has it that the festival was conceived in 2007 by three friends in a local bar. They were musing over the fact that Cyprus really needed a good blues festival and Rock Pissouri was born.

Refreshments including beer, soft drinks and food are available, but you are welcome to bring your own if you wish.

Pissouri is easy to find, if heading from the Paphos direction, go along the main A6 or B6 toward Limassol.

Rock Pissouri 2010 is being held on the 17th July 2010 at Pissouri Amphitheatre.
