'Smyrna - Aegean - Cyprus', June 18th, 2010

 

A musical journey titled "Smyrna - Aegean - Cyprus" which started the previous summer from Cafe-Aman of Smyrna to Piraeus and from Aegean islands to Cyprus. After the warm response of people in last year performances, Theodora Athanasiou (lafta, yayli tanbur, vocals) and Pavlos Michaelides (violin, vocals) continue this magical journey for a second year.

The two musicians are trying to combine their arrangement in an abstract way with the melodic richness and the communicative character of this music. They got inspired by the so-called yokes; ensemble consisted usually of two or three instruments that we very often find in the islands with lute and violin, not only today but also in the first period of Greek music.
