The Cypriot guitarist Timotheos Stylianides
will perform a programme with works by Manuel De Falla, Miguel Llobet, Isaac
Albeniz, Frank Martin, MikisTheodorakis, Benjamin Britten and Joaquin Rodrigo,
at Technopolis 20 on Wednesday, February 10 at 8pm.
Timotheos Stylianides was born in Paphos in 1982 and took his first
guitar lessons at the age of eleven. In 2002 he commenced his studies at the
University of Hull in G. Britain where he focused on Performance, Composition,
Orchestration and Psychology of Music. At the same time he studied the guitar
under the guidance of Tom McKinney and Graig Ogden. He then followed
postgraduate studies at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama where his guitar
teachers were EleftheriaKotzia and John Mills. He graduated with a MMus in
Performance. During his studies he participated in various festivals and
seminars in which he took advice from many accomplished artists including Leo
Brouwer, David Russel Manuel Barruecco, Alvaro Pierri, Carlo Marchione,
AnielloDesiderio and Zoran Dukic. Further, Timotheos Stylianides studied at the
Real Cοnservatorio
Superior de Musica de Madrid in Spain where he took guitar lessons from Jose
Luis Rodrigo.
After a competition in May 2006 he was
awarded the John Mills Guitar Prize. Timotheos Stylianides has performed in
several countries including United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, Croatia and Cyprus.
He is currently teaching guitar at the European University of Cyprus.
