Freedom Dolls - Spring Mad Hatter's

THE MISSION
RAISING PUBLIC AWARENESS

Public understanding and awareness of the realities of sexual exploitation within Human Trafficking are paramount in helping victims. Our Safe houses are funded through awareness of the dolls, fund raising and donations. Helping the public understand that for every doll that is brought it helps the victims once more gain self-worth and gives them an opportunity to climb out of the hellish environment they are in. Awareness helps everyone to understand that Freedom Dolls are more than just a doll they represent an individual’s freedom.

WHAT WE OFFER
HOW WE HELP VICTIMS
Once a victim is rescued they are taken to a safe house where they stay for four weeks, during this period the local authorities assess wheather or not the victims have been trafficked.
Once the victims are told to leave the government safe house, they are left to fend for themselves. This is where the Freedom Houses come into effect while the victims are waiting for their court cases to be heard which can take up to three years. This depends on the efficacy of the countries legal assistance within the country the victim has been trafficked too. Our victims are helped by providing a safe, secure homely environment with structured care. Counseling, one to one care is very important, their mental health is one the important issue that need addressing. Providing classes to help them find an interest for example computers, cooking, gardening and of course sewing our freedom dolls, if they would like to sew. Whatever, they wish to do, we will work closely with them to build their confidence back up.

Home For Cooperation

The H4C houses a multi-functional research and educational centre: a centre for young people, educators, historians and researchers; a space for exhibitions and archives, a library and a workspace for NGOs.

1974 onwards
The Buffer Zone became a symbol of confrontation. The Ledra Palace crossing was the route through which very few people could cross from one side to the other. The Ledra Palace Hotel was the venue where politicians held meetings to discuss the “Cyprus problem.” It was also one of the most suitable places for citizen groups and civil society organizations from either side of the buffer zone to meet and pursue common projects, as well as having the opportunity to meet people from other communities in Cyprus .

April 2003
The dividing line cutting though the city of Nicosia opens some of its doors to the public, with the Ledra Palace crossing being the first to open. Hundreds of people queued at the Ledra Palace to cross the divide for the first time in over 30 years. A new dynamic was injected into communal and intercommunal life in the street.

May 2011
The Home for Cooperation opens its doors to the world on 6 May 2011, with an opening ceremony bringing together the leaders of the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities of Cyprus, with representatives of civil society and dignitaries from around Europe, including the Council of Europe, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and the Netherlands. The unique four-day celebration marking the inauguration of the H4C showcases the collective efforts of civil society organizations across Cyprus, with musical performances, sports events, art exhibitions, a symposium and film screenings.

Today
We invite you to be part of this historical journey and join us in our future vision of cooperation and dialogue centered on the multifunctional H4C!

Golden Keys To A Happy Life

You create the world you live in. The people we encounter on our path are there not by chance, but because we brought them to life. The experiences we have and the situations we face are here because we each made it so.
You are a powerful being with the possibility to manifest anything you like, but most of us do this unconsciously.
Depending on what you focus your thoughts and our energy on, your life situation will change—for better or for worse. What does your life look like right now? Are you at peace and content with where you are? Are you manifesting a life of love? Or are you manifesting a life of fear?

By becoming aware of our thoughts and realizing the power we have over a life situation, we can start to manifest good instead of bad.
Focus on what you want to create instead of what you lack
.It’s very logical—by thinking negative thoughts (I am not good enough/I don’t have enough/I am unhappy) we will have a negative outlook on life, thus attracting more negative experiences into your space.

It’s a vicious cycle, and we all need to stop it right away.

Begin from where you are. There is beauty in life. Connect to it. Be positive and grateful for the blessings you have. Be here. Don’t dwell in the past. Stop thinking in terms of “should have” “could have” or “it would have been better if.”

You are where you are! You cannot change what was in the past. Why focus on something you cannot possibly do anything about?
What you can do, however, is change your present.
It’s here, where you are.
This is it.
Life is now.
Change your life situation by being compassionate, by staying positive, by forgiving, by focusing on love and light and space and gratitude and abundance and happiness.

7 most endangered Europa Nostra Heritage Sites

The Buffer Zone of the Historic Centre of Nicosia, CYPRUS
The 7 Most Endangered heritage sites for 2013 were selected by Europa Nostra’s Board from the 14 sites shortlisted by an Advisory Panel composed of international experts.

Buffer Zone in the Historic Centre of Nicosia in CYPRUS

The aftermath of the Cyprus dispute saw the creation of the Nicosia buffer zone in 1974. This area cuts through the historic centre and has disrupted the city’s cohesion for almost 40 years. Decades of abandonment have undermined the high architectural value of the buildings, among which are medieval and neoclassical monuments, and had a devastating impact on the quality of the environment and living conditions of the entire city centre. Once the focal point of crafts and trade, the heart of historic Nicosia is today a lifeless 1.5 km corridor.
Since the 1980, the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities of Nicosia have worked together, with the support of the United Nations, to produce a Master Plan for the revitalization of the buffer zone. International assistance is today needed to start its implementation by restoring, one by one, the historic buildings located in the Nicosia buffer zone.
This important Master Plan, which is a brilliant example of cultural heritage acting as a catalyst for peace and reconciliation, received a Grand Prix in category research as part of the 2011 European Union Prize for Cultural Heritage/Europa Nostra Awards programme.

In this initial year, civil society organisations and public bodies from 21 European countries submitted 40 nominations. ‘The 7 Most Endangered’ programme was launched last January, having been inspired by a successful project run by the US National Trust for Historic Preservation.
These gems of Europe’s cultural and natural heritage are in danger, some due to lack of funds or expertise, others due to inadequate planning, neglect, natural disaster or even political conflict. Urgent action is therefore required.

THE SOUND OF MUSIC - Family Concerts

Family Concerts with slide projections, for children of ages 5 and above
Saturday 29 March 2014, Pallas Theatre, Paphos Gate, Nicosia
Two family concerts at 16:30 and 18:00

The Cyprus Symphony Orchestra travels you and your children to Salzburg in Austria in the Alps with the accompaniment of music by the famous musical “The Sound of Music”.
The main character of the musical, Maria, is encouraged by the nuns to first live the secular life before deciding to live permanently in the monastery; and is therefore called by Captain Georg von Trapp to babysit his seven children while he and his wife are away on a trip for a month. While in the house, Maria teaches the children the basic principles of music and teaches them to sing. As the Captain returns from the trip, Maria tries to implement love and music in the Captain’s house, by encouraging him to truly reveal his love towards the children. The Captain feels charmed by Maria’s effort, falls in love with her and marries her.

The whole story is described through the songs, some sung by the nuns, others by Maria, the Captain and others by the children. These songs such as, among other, “Do, Re, Mi”, “My favorite things”, “Edelweiss”, “Climb Ev’ry Mountain”, and of course “The Sound of Music” will be performed by the rising Cypriot soprano Aliki Chrysochou. Conductor and narrator will be Alkis Baltas.

Join us to enjoy and sing along with the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra the Sound of Music!!

Tickets: €5 (adults), free entrance (children and young people under 18 years old)Tickets and free entrance vouchers available at the Pallas Theatre Box Office (tel. 22 410181) on the 27 and 28 March 16:00-19:00, and on the concerts’ day 15:30-18:00.

Something... sorrow Exhibition by Michalis Onisiforou

Cyprus : Something... sorrowCollage/painting exhibition
by Michalis Onisiforou @“Halara” coffee shop,
7th – 25th March 2014
In the end, the big questions are, what are we looking for and where are we going to find it? Do we even know what is it that we are looking for, or whatever will be will be? And what the hell happened with human relationships? Love has turned into exploitation, life became a constant carnival, and there seems to be no ending to this dangerous slope…
The current exhibition is preoccupied with this harsh reality, with the things that we carefully tend to hide under the carpet, and that’s simply because art is art and it has nothing to do with interior design and the decoration of one’s living room.
something sorrow…
once the fairytale is missing and, all of a sudden, we become reality’s lovers seeking the fleeting carcass of gusto as our screams rise to the horizon of the being to go face to face with the inconceivable absence-it is indeed a great distance to cover; allegory is-while knowing that it is impossible
to reach the improbable end!

Saint Patrick's Day

Saint Patrick's Day or the Feast of Saint Patrick is a cultural and religious holiday celebrated annually on 17 March, the death date of the most commonly-recognized patron saint of Ireland, Saint Patrick (c. AD 385–461).
Saint Patrick's Day was made an official Christian feast day in the early seventeenth century and is observed by the Catholic Church, the Anglican Communion (especially the Church of Ireland), the Eastern Orthodox Church and Lutheran Church. The day commemorates Saint Patrick and the arrival of Christianity in Ireland as well as celebrates the heritage and culture of the Irish in general. Celebrations generally involve public parades and festivals, céilithe, and the wearing of green attire or shamrocks. Christians also attend church services, and the Lenten restrictions on eating and drinking alcohol are lifted for the day, which has encouraged and propagated the holiday's tradition of alcohol consumption.

May the roof above us never fall in, and may the friends gathered below it never fall out.

Saint Patrick's Day is a public holiday in the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Newfoundland and Labrador and Montserrat. It is also widely celebrated by the Irish diaspora around the world; especially in Britain, Canada, the United States, Argentina, Australia and New Zealand. Patrick is said to have used the shamrock, a three-leaved plant, to explain the Holy Trinity to the pagan Irish. This story first appears in writing in 1726, though it may be older. In pagan Ireland, three was a significant number and the Irish had many triple deities. The triple spiral symbol appears at many ancient megalithic sites in Ireland.

The color green has been associated with Ireland since at least the 1640s, when the green harp flag was used by the Irish Catholic Confederation. Green ribbons and shamrocks have been worn on St Patrick's Day since at least the 1680s. Green was adopted as the colour of the Friendly Brothers of St Patrick, an Irish fraternity founded in about 1750.

Collages - Andreas Aspromallis

15th -16th March
Is Not Gallery
11 Odysseos Street
NicosiaHaving studied Textile Design & Fine Arts at the Fashion Institute of Technology and later on at Parsons School of Design, Andreas Aspromallis always found himself fascinated by artistic people and the creativity of students and artists that existed in every corner of New York. People were visiting museums and galleries on a daily basis and so did he, making him anxious to start creating his own style of work.
Andreas finds inspirational artists that use their feelings in their work and admires as he says "Artists that create work by a single movement and not by putting hours of work and tones of paint". Examples of such inspirational artists, he continues, are Marcel Duchump, Hannah Hock, Piet Mondrian, Hanks Arp, Man Ray and John McLaughlin. The artist's work is influenced greatly by modernism and minimalism as well as by renaissance artists and the 19th Century.

"I see my art work as expressions that cannot be said by words but only through shapes and colours. I want people to feel emotions rather than see an image."
