"Kataklysmos" Flood Festival (Larnaca)

Kataklysmos (Festival of the Floods) marks the day of the Holy Spirit and is a Greek Orthodox Festival with strong pagan roots, focusing on the theme of water.

This Festival is especially important for coastal cities and in particular Larnaca hosts a range of events such as concerts and games near the shore.

The sea front promenade of Larnaca takes on the colorful appearance of an open-air fair, with scores of stalls selling toys and traditional food. Traditional culture takes pride of place with a competition for chatista or rhyming songs in the Cypriot dialect. Other performers include popular Greek and Cypriot singers and dance troupes. In line with the spirit of the celebrations, events also include competitions in the water.

Culture, the soul and connecting fiber of Europe

Event dedicated to the World Day for Culture and Cultural Heritage, with an address by the former Director of the Ministry of Education and Culture Cultural Services Eleni Nikita, entitled “Culture, the soul and connecting fiber of Europe”.

A performance by soprano Katerina Mina and members of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra will follow the event.

In addition, a film presenting the culture and cultural heritage of Cyprus, focusing on the occupied areas, will be screened.

Organized by the Socialist Party EDEK Culture Committee.
