Graphic Stories Cyprus

Graphic Stories Cyprus aspires to become the motivation for meeting and interaction for the designers in Cyprus and abroad, on an annual basis, as also to be a point of reference for the field of visual design.

In recent years, Cyprus has seen a blooming on the applied arts' and visual communications' field. Not only as the younger wishing to express their creative talent, but also by professionals who seek new ways of expressing and showcasing to the local and international businesses.

The founders and organizers of “Graphic Stories Cyprus”, Aggeliki Michalopoulou-Karra and Miltos Karras, set as goal and meaning for “Graphic Stories Cyprus” the transfer of knowledge and specialized professional know how, as well as the investigating of graphic design's current trends. In the meeting, there will be lecture presentations and specialized workshops, by experienced and established professional designers, with the purpose of interactively exchanging views, knowledge and ideas, between lecturers and the audience.

In this year's first Meeting, the visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy 80 of the best posters, gathered from the 3 competitions of the International Reggae Poster Contest. There have been more than 3000 posters from 101 countries, with Cyprus among them. The contest is organized by Michael Thompson and Maria Papaefstathiou, whom we will gladly host in Graphic Stories Cyprus 2015. The contest's aim is the promotion of Reggae music and the support of Alpha Boys School. The exhibition “The Art of Reggae” will be complemented by a Reggae party, with the seal of successful DJs of the reggae scene, DJ Haji Mike και DJ Johnny Rankin. The exhibition will remain until March 15, 2015.

Next, there will be a two-day workshop about the creation of an artistic poster, by Yiorgos Tsangaris and Eleni Panagidou. The workshop will create an atmosphere of experimentation, by exploring the connection between form, design color and typography. Typographic elements, collage, silk screen print, linotype and monotype will challenge the participants to work for the creation of an artistic poster.

In the Saturday's lectures, the audience will have the opportunity to watch the process of design evolution, about communicating a brand, as well as the strategy for its promotion, by Renos Demetriou. Demetris Soteriou and Pericles Christoforides will give us answers to the questions that arise, regarding to the packaging design of a Cypriot product, in 2030 AD. The internationally known Greek designer Charis Tsevis will be with us and will guide us to the Design with no dead-ends! The meeting will be prefaced by academic Klimis Mastoridis, shedding “more light”, speaking about the role of triangles in the panoramic view of graphic design. Free Greek workshop by Language Transfer's Cyprus Project at CCMC

This will be the last free 4-hour workshop for Greek until Greek 3 is ready. It will be a blend of the material previously covered in Greek 1/2. So it is for beginners and those who previously did Greek 1!

Resources are stretched so thin at the moment that we cannot continue to make workshops for material that is already online with the free audio courses (http://www.languagetransfer.org/#!greek-download/c1a3v) . So participants are expected to do these self-directed courses and then regroup for the conversational practice and Greek 3.

When Greek 3 is ready in October, it will contain material not seen on the audios (so will serve as a continuation from the audios) and will be a 4-hour workshop to see the new material and recap the previous material.

Check out this short video on the CY project!
