FIVB U21 World Championships 2014

The City of Larnaka and Cyprus Volleyball Federation will host the FIVB U21 World Championships between July 23rd and July 27th 2014. This event is held in memory of Cyprus late president Glafkos Klerides, a resident of our fine city.

This is one of the top Beach Volleyball Events in the world, after the Olympic Games and the Men’s & Women’s World Championships. It is one of four world class events the FIVB organizes each year for young athletes under the age of 23 (U17, U19, U21 & U23). Future olympians from all 5 continents will compete for the title of World's Best.

The event will take place on one of the most beautiful beaches of the island, ‘Foinikoudes‘ beach, which is also one of Larnaka's tourist attractions. This strip of cafes, bars, clubs, restaurants and hotels on the beach front, will become the hot spot of the guests and tourists attending the events.

FIVB U21 Beach VolleyBall World Championships, 23-27 July 2014

Cyprus returns to the world stage of international beach volleyball this year when it hosts the FIVB U21 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships. The 14th annual double-gender age group event will be held from July 23 to 27 in Larnaka as the FIVB now has an unprecedented four age-group World Championships for beach volleyball held annually.

Below is the Competition Schedule
Qualification Tournament:
Women: 23/07/14, 08:00
Men: 23/07/14, 08:00

1 day single elimination with a maximum of 24 teams to qualify 4 teams into the Main Draw and to fill
any vacancy (ies) in the Main Draw due to withdrawals of Min Draw teams.

Main Draw and Finals:
Women: 24/07/14
Men: 24/07/14

Preliminary phase
2-3 days - 6 groups of 6 teams, each playing round robin for a total of 36 teams – 4 top ranked teams
of each group will qualify for the final phase (single elimination phase).

Final phase
2-3 days’ single elimination with 24 qualified teams. The winner of the semifinal games will play the
gold medal match while the loser of the semifinal will play the bronze medal match.
