The origins of Valentine's Day trace back to the pagan fertility festival of Lupercalia held on February 15th honoring the gods Lupercus and Faunus, as well as the legendary Roman founders, Romulus and Remus.

According to legend, in addition to a bountiful feast, Lupercalia festivities included a pairing of couples with all the young women in the city placing their names in a big urn to be drawn by the bachelors. It is believed that in an effort to "Christianize' this celebration, the church decided to honour Valentine who was put to death on 14th February for disobeying Emperor Claudius II by secretly performing marriage ceremonies.

Valentine greetings have been popular as far back as the Middle Age and by the middle of the 18th century in England it was common for friends and lovers to exchange small tokens of affection or handwritten notes.

So wherever you are in the world for this years Valentines Day put the mood of austerity aside and let the love flow for the person that matters in your life!

Finally December 2012 is here. Its been talked about and predicted for thousands of years, with a multitude of theories and outcomes both good and bad. More specifically, it is on the 21st of December 2012 at precisely 11:11 am, the earth will be in the exact alignment with the sun and the center of the our galaxy known as the 'Milky Way'. This is a extremely rare astrological event that occurs only once every 26,000 years. 1. The name December comes from the Latin decem for “ten”, as it was the 10th month in the Roman Calendar
2. December 25th was celebrated in ancient times as the birthday of the “God” Mithra and when Christianity began to take form as a religion to entice pagans to leave their archaic beliefs and embrace Christian theology; Christian leaders adopted the date as Jesus’ Birthday
3. The term Yuletide (’yule monath’) comes from a Norse tradition of cutting and burning a huge tree on December 21st. It was supposed to symbolize the winter solstice, bring good luck and burn throughout the 12 day winter festival, known later as the 12 days of Christmas.

Remember the 5th of November? This fascinating story is centered around Guy Fawkes (13 April 1570 – 31 January 1606) sometimes known as Guido Fawkes, who was a member of a group of English Roman Catholic revolutionaries that planned to carry out the great Gunpowder Plot.

Although Robert Catesby was the lead figure in thinking up the actual plot, Fawkes was put in charge of executing the plan due to his military and explosives experience. The plot was foiled however, shortly before its intended completion. Fawkes himself was famously captured whilst guarding the gunpowder. They were all later executed for treason. Suspicion was aroused because wore a coat, boots and spurs, as though he intended to leave in a rush! Guy Fawkes most certainly left a lasting mark on history and popular culture in the United Kingdom and even parts of the Commonwealth.

On November 5th the yearly event of Bonfire Night takes place, centered on the concept of the plot and Fawkes the executor. The tradition of this truly remarkable British event still captures the imagination of children and adults alike, as they attend firework displays across Britain to commemorate a strange occurrence in history. All of this despite the safety risks of fireworks and the changes of modern culture in the UK.

In stark contrast, the first living creature was sent into Space in this month; a Russian dog called Laika on the spaceship “Sputnik 2” (second spacecraft launched into Earth orbit), on November 3, 1957. Unfortunately poor Laika didn’t return to earth.

The above events and other historic examples, lead us to conclude that November is truly an unlucky month (certainly in the UK and Russia) and in some respects the most boring on the worldwide Event scene. We really had to dig deep to prepare this month's world events.

This September, there is not just a single place to be, because there are events happening all around the world.
