Relatos Salvajes presents Wild Tales for 5 days at Cine Studio in Nicosia!

Inequality, injustice and the demands of the world we live in cause stress and depression for many people. Some of them, however, explode. This is a movie about those people. Vulnerable in the face of a reality that shifts and suddenly turns unpredictable, the characters of Wild Tales cross the thin line that divides civilization and barbarism. A lover's betrayal, a return to the repressed past and the violence woven into everyday encounters drive the characters to madness as they cede to the undeniable pleasure of losing control.

Thoc presents "Oedipus the King" in January in Nicosia

Stage 018 of THOC presents "Oedipus the King" with a new approach to the work of Sophocles.

Oedipus the King (Ancient Greek: Οἰδίπους Τύραννος, Oidipous Tyrannos), also known by its Latin title Oedipus Rex, is an Athenian tragedy by Sophocles that was first performed about 429 BC. It was the second in order of Sophocles's composition of his three plays dealing with Oedipus. Thematically, however, it was the first in the trilogy's historical chronology, followed by Oedipus at Colonus and then Antigone.

Oedipus the King tells the story of Oedipus, a man who becomes the king of Thebes, whilst in the process unwittingly fulfilling a prophecy that he would kill his father Laius and marry his mother Jocasta.

The play is an example of classic tragedy, notably containing an emphasis upon how Oedipus's own faults contribute to his downfall (as opposed to making fate the sole cause). Over the centuries, Oedipus the King has come to be regarded by many as the Greek tragedy par excellence.

Chamber Music Concerts with musicians of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra for 2 days on the 24th & 25th of January!!

Τhe Chamber Music Concert series with musicians of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra organized for the past five years in Nicosia with great success, is extended as from 2015 to include other cities as well.

The first programme this year will be given in Nicosia and Limassol by a Trio with clarinet, viola and piano made up of CySO musicians Dusko Zarkovic (clarinet), Krzysztof Wrobel (viola) and guest pianist Elena Mitella-Violari. The ensemble will interpret Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Trio for clarinet, viola and piano in E-flat major, K. 498 followed and beautifully balanced by Max Bruch’s Eight pieces for clarinet, viola and piano, op. 83.

Mozart was the first to combine these specific instruments in a trio resulting in a work which flows with inspiration and beauty of melody and form. The special tim-bres of the clarinet and the viola give the music an espe-cially inti-mate and gen-tle char-ac-ter. Bruch’s magnificent composition is in essence a set of character pieces abounding with strong emotions: gloom, rhapsodic exaltation, restlessness and agitation, ardour and introverted lyricism.
